The AMSA Academy of the Mind is a short course in mental health written to empower and up-skill medical students in their abilities to recognize, understand and assist with mental health problems in peers and friends, and self. Recent research has proven what has been long suspected, that medical students suffer greater rates of mental illness than the general public. However, this does not have to be the case! The AMSA course will encourage students to look at mental health from a public health perspective so we can reduce rates of mental illness in both medical students and the broader community. The course will provide practical knowledge, strategies and resources for tackling mental illness, all of which can and will be carried by accomplishers in to their medical careers. It has been developed in consultation with Australia’s best-recognized researchers in the field of mental health, and really is an opportunity not to be missed. Course Syllabus
